Whether you call it chainmail, maile, maille, ringmail, or mayle, making armour or jewellery from linked rings is a fun, challenging and rewarding pastime.
This site is for beginners and experts alike. With over 10 years in the field, you can be assured that I know what I'm talking about!
Making your first bit of maile is a really rewarding experience! All you need is two pairs of pliers, some split rings, a little spare time and some patience and determination. To help you along the way, you can download my beginner's guide. If you prefer to learn in person, I also run workshops for ages 10+
A little practiced art in chainmail making is the creation of inlay pictures using different coloured rings. The patterns I create are standard European 4 in 1 and assume that you are familiar with the basic knitting process. To the left is a selection of pictures for which I have made detailed, link by link, 'patterns'.
Most of these patterns can be bought (see an example pattern). If you want to design your own inlays, I would be happy to give you a quote to create tailor-made patterns, just send me an email.
I can provide loose rings and other chain making supplies at reduced prices (since I buy such large quantities for myself!). Feel free to get in touch with any queries.
Maile workshops are a great way to learn a new skill from an experienced teacher. I teach groups of between 5-15 people, aged 10years+. Great for: birthday parties, school groups and even roleplayers and re-enactors. I will tailor the workshop according to the age and skill level of the attendants. Get in touch for more details.
